A worker from PT Lestari Smelter Indonesia (LSI) died after reportedly being electrocuted while opening a ferronickel water pump at the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) in Bahodopi District on Thursday night (Nov. 6).
PT IMIP’s Head of Media Relations, Dedy Kurniawan, said the victim, identified as Abdul Wahab, 21, was found unconscious near the pump area and was rushed to the company clinic but could not be saved.

“It is strongly suspected that the victim was electrocuted while opening water pump 31,” Dedy said in a statement on Friday (Nov. 7), adding that operations in the area were halted and a safety barricade installed following the incident.
The Central Sulawesi Occupational Safety and Health Surveillance (Binwasnaker) has launched an investigation. IMIP said it would conduct a comprehensive review of occupational safety across its operations.
