The company did not disclose details about the identity of the victim or the chronology of the incident, saying an investigation is still underway.

PT Indexim Coalindo said it and its contractors have consistently prioritized occupational health and safety in field operations and will follow procedures stipulated under regulations issued by Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry regarding the investigation of workplace accidents.

“We deeply regret this incident and extend our heartfelt condolences to our contractor partner and the family of the worker,” Ditto said.

Fatal workplace accidents have occurred more than once in East Kalimantan’s mining sector this year. In a separate incident on Jan. 10, one worker died following an accident at a mining site operated by PT Kaltim Prima Coal.
