At least 365 workers of granite producer PT Karimun Granit (KG) which is located in Pasir Panjang, Meral district, Karimun regency, went on strike on Wednesday due to an alleged discrimination made by the company.

The workers demanded the company to give a fair treatment to them in the payment of on-leave and transportation allowance, Riau Post reported on Thursday.

The workers complained that their friends from outside the province received on-leave and transportation allowance amounting to Rp 10 million, while the locals got only Rp 100,000.

KG?s general manager denied the discrimination charge, saying that the amount of the allowance payment was differ from one to another depending on the contract agreement signed by the workers with the company.

He said that the company could not meet any agreement related to the workers? demand because the dispute should be first discussed in a tripartite meeting with the local manpower office before the company issued its decision. (*)
