Workers threatens to blockade Vico

Monday, October 2 2000 - 04:00 AM WIB

The workers of the subcontractors of American oil and gas company Vico Indonesia threatened on Friday to blockade again the access road to the company's office in Muara Badak, East Kalimantan following the failure of the company and the Indonesian Prosperous Labor Union (SBSI) to reach a solution to the lingering dispute between the workers and the company's subcontractors.

"We shall blockade (the access road to the company), if Vico fails to make a clear decision," one worker was quoted by Suara Kaltim daily as saying in Balikpapan.

The paper said Vico's management was still unable to agree with SBSI on a solution to the dispute on the third day of the negotiation on Friday.

The workers suspected Vico was not interested in solving the dispute and sought to prolong the negotiation. (*)
