Wortel field to start production on January 31

Wortel field in Sampang block offshore of East Java, operated by Santos Pty Ltd, will begin producing gas on January 31 at a rate of 50 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd).

With the Wortel coming on stream, Santos will have a total production of 210 mmscfd from Madura block with Maelo field contributing 110 mmscfd and Oyong field 50 mmscfd, said Deputy Chairman of Oil and Gas Upstream Sector Regulator (BPMIGAS) Hardiono.

??All gas production is intended for domestic market,? he said during a site visit to the company?s onshore processing facility (OPF) in Grati, Pasuruan, East Java, on Thursday.

Of the Wortel?s production, up to 30 mmscfd of which will be supplied to PT Indonesia Power, 17 mmscfd to the Sampang administration-owned company (BUMD Sampang) and another 3 mmscfd to Pasuruan administration-owned company (BUMD Sampang).

State gas distributor PT PGN receives the gas production from the Maleo field while gas from the Oyong field supplies the Grati power plant belonging to state electricity firm PT PLN.
