Antam mulls continuing abandoned W. Kalimantan gold project

State miner PT Aneka Tambang Tbk said Wednesday it had begun exploring on some prospect area in West Kalimantan where its joint venture partner Pacific Amber resources, decided to abandon in April 2000.

The exploration, which commenced last June, was meant to evaluate the possibility of continuing the project independently, said the company?s statement.

Prior to joint venture termination, PT Uncak Kapuas Mining, a joint venture between Canadian mineral explorer Pacific Amber Resources and Antam held Contract of Work covering an area of 112,600 hectares in West Kalimantan. (alex)
