Indonesian government has decided to keep electricity tariffs charged by PT PLN (Persero) unchanged for the second quarter of 2026 (April–June), citing efforts to maintain household purchasing power.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced that tariffs will remain steady despite potential adjustments under the prevailing pricing mechanism.

“People do not need to worry, as the government has set electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 unchanged,” acting Director General of Electricity Tri Winarno said in an official statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday.

The decision aims to safeguard public purchasing power, while the government also urged consumers to use electricity efficiently as part of a broader effort to support national energy resilience.

Before reaching the decision, the government conducted a comprehensive evaluation of macroeconomic parameters in accordance with existing regulations.

Tariff adjustments for non-subsidized customers refer to Energy Ministry Regulation No. 7 of 2024, which mandates quarterly evaluations based on movements in key indicators, including the rupiah exchange rate, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation and the coal reference price (HBA).

For the second quarter of 2026, the calculation used macroeconomic data from November 2025 to January 2026, including an exchange rate of Rp16,743.46 per US dollar, an ICP of $62.78 per barrel, inflation of 0.22%, and an HBA of $70 per ton.

Although the formula indicated the possibility of a tariff adjustment, the government opted to maintain current rates to preserve national economic stability amid ongoing global uncertainties.

The policy also applies to subsidized customers, whose electricity tariffs remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the company is ready to implement the policy while ensuring reliable electricity supply for all customers, particularly amid global geopolitical uncertainty.

Darmawan added that PLN appreciates the government’s decision to maintain tariff stability, noting that the policy provides certainty for both households and businesses while supporting purchasing power and national competitiveness.

As the backbone of Indonesia’s electricity sector, PLN remains committed to maintaining reliable power supply from upstream to downstream and ensuring optimal service across the country.
