The government has decided to keep electricity tariffs unchanged for the second quarter of 2026, despite rising energy prices, in a move aimed at maintaining public purchasing power ahead of the Idulfitri holiday.
The decision was announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), with Acting Director General of Electricity Tri Winarno stating that the policy reflects prevailing regulations and current economic conditions.
“The public does not need to worry, as the government has set electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 to remain unchanged,” Tri said in Jakarta on Monday (March 16). “This decision was made to maintain purchasing power ahead of Idulfitri, based on calculations using various macroeconomic parameters.”
Under Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 7 of 2024, tariffs for 13 non-subsidized customer groups are reviewed every three months, taking into account macroeconomic indicators such as the rupiah exchange rate, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the reference coal price (HBA).

For the April–June period, the government used data from November 2025 to January 2026, including an exchange rate of Rp16,743.46 per US dollar, an ICP of $62.78 per barrel, inflation of 0.22 percent, and a coal reference price of $70 per ton in line with the domestic market obligation (DMO) policy.
While the tariff formula suggested a potential adjustment, the government opted to hold rates steady to safeguard industrial competitiveness, public purchasing power and overall economic stability amid global uncertainties. Tariffs for 25 subsidized customer groups will also remain unchanged.
The ministry has also urged state utility PT PLN (Persero) to ensure reliable electricity supply, improve service quality and enhance operational efficiency to support sustainable power delivery.
