State construction firm PT Hutama Karya (Persero) and several government agencies and state-owned companies signed a memorandum of understanding to develop toll road connectivity to the planned New Palembang Port in Tanjung Carat, South Sumatra.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday by representatives from the Investment and Downstreaming Ministry, Public Works Ministry, South Sumatra provincial government, PT Danantara Asset Management, state coal miner PT Bukit Asam Tbk (IDX: PTBA), and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero).

The project aims to integrate toll road infrastructure with the New Palembang Port development in Banyuasin regency and strengthen logistics connectivity for downstream industries and commodity exports in South Sumatra.

Under the agreement, the parties will coordinate on investment facilitation, spatial planning, toll road feasibility studies, coal transportation demand, and port infrastructure development.

Deputy Investment Minister Todotua Pasaribu said the integrated toll road project would support the broader development of Tanjung Carat as an international port and industrial downstream hub linked to the Trans Sumatra Toll Road network.

South Sumatra provincial secretary Edward Candra said the port project remains part of the National Strategic Projects list and that land for the development has already been prepared.

Hutama Karya President Director Koentjoro said the company views the project as part of efforts to strengthen the role of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road in supporting logistics and industrial activity in the region.
