The Director of Forest Area Utilization of the Ministry of Forestry Hudoyo recently stated that the government will revoke the CoW (Contract of Work) and CCoW (Coal Contract of Work) mining licenses in primary forests and peatlands to be in obedience to the two year moratorium policy.

At the same time, the government will hold mining business permits (IUPs) that have been issued and will postpone issuing new IUPs in primary forests and peatlands.

"We will hold until 2013 the validity of IUP licenses in primary forests and peatlands that had been previously issued by the regional governments or the ministry. This is in accordance with the Presidential Instruction No. 10/2011," Hudoyo said today in Denpasar, Bali.

He added that all activities in primary forests and peatlands, with the exceptions of developments of geothermal energy, fossil fuel, power plant, rice and sugarcane plantation projects, will have to wait until the end of the forest moratorium period.
