Newmont gets PROPER Green rating for the sixth time

PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PT NNT) has received a Green PROPER rating for the sixth time from the Ministry of Environmental Affairs for the recognition of its efforts to meet sustainable environmental management and pollution requirements set by the ministry.

The 2010-2011 Green PROPER rating, the second highest grade in the rating program, was presented to the company during a reception held in Jakarta on Wednesday.

?We are proud that we can successfully receive the green PROPER rating for the sixth time. This is the recognition for our ability to meet environmental standards set by the Ministry of Environmental Affairs, which also include our social responsibility program,? PTNNT president director Martiono Hadianto.

Besides the PROPER rating, PTNNT also received this year the ADITAMA eco-certification for the second time from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.

The PROPER rating program which has been introduced since 2002 is based on compliance on PROPER requirements such as management of water and air pollution, management of hazardous and toxic waste (B3), and other obligations relating to the company?s environmental impact assessment (AMDAL). (giok)
