Prabowo invites Australia to invest in Indonesia’s mineral processing sector

President Prabowo Subianto has invited Australia to deepen investment cooperation in downstream mineral processing, particularly in the critical minerals sector, including nickel, copper, bauxite, and gold.

The invitation was conveyed during a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday (Feb. 6).

“I also invite Australia to invest in Indonesia’s downstream critical minerals sector, including the processing of nickel, copper, bauxite, and gold,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo added that Indonesia is likewise encouraging its companies to invest in Australia’s critical minerals mining sector as part of a mutually beneficial, two-way partnership.

“At the same time, we are also encouraging Indonesian companies to invest in Australia’s critical minerals mining sector,” he said.

The president noted that Danantara, Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, is ready to cooperate with Australian partners to explore co-investment opportunities and other forms of strategic collaboration.

During the meeting, Prabowo and Albanese discussed a range of shared priority agendas, with cooperation in agriculture and downstream industrial development among the main focus areas. Earlier, the two leaders signed the Indonesia–Australia Joint Security Treaty, reaffirming the close relationship between the two countries.
