Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) called on the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to tightly implement the reclamation guarantee, making it as requisite for mining companies to propose extension of mining business license (IUPs) or to apply for a new license.
The agency?s investigation found that 64 holders of production operation IUPs and 2 owners of coal contract of works (PKP2B) have not deposited any reclamation guarantee.
?Such reclamation guarantee is crucial. If it is not tightly implemented the miners would leave its ex-mining area unmanaged,? BPK member Ali Masykur Musa told the press.
The Government Regulation Number 78/2010 on reclamation and post-mining activities mandates both the IUP explorations and IUP productions to deposit reclamation guarantee placed at the state-owned bank.
The BPK also called on the Ministry to tighten up the implementation of 'clean and clear' certification.
