Wood, a global consulting and engineering firm, announced on Thursday it has been awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract by Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) to develop the nation’s Second liquefied natural gas (LNG) Terminal. This expansion is set to enhance Singapore’s energy infrastructure, adding approximately five million tons of LNG capacity per annum, in line with the country’s growing energy needs.

The new LNG terminal will feature a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), a specialized vessel designed for storing and converting LNG back into gas, marking the first time Singapore deploys an FSRU on a permanent basis. The terminal will be located at Jurong Port and will facilitate the transfer of regasified LNG from the vessel into the country’s onshore gas transmission network.

Henry Ling, Senior Vice President of Process & Chemicals Asia Pacific for Wood, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We are thrilled to be awarded the engineering contract for the Second LNG Terminal, which will deliver additional low-carbon LNG services. Wood successfully supported SLNG with the engineering of the first LNG Terminal in 2013, and we are committed to delivering the same high-quality work for this complex and innovative concept.”

Wood’s role will include a thorough review of the FSRU design and coordination of its integration with the onshore infrastructure, ensuring a seamless and efficient connection to Singapore’s gas grid. The project is seen as a key step in enhancing Singapore’s energy resilience and transitioning to a lower-carbon future.
