Release: Quarter II/2005, PTNNT pays taxes and royalties of Rp290 billion

West Sumbawa, August 4, 2005 ? During the second quarter of 2005 PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) has paid taxes and royalties to the government totaling Rp290 billion. The payments were made in accordance with the provisions stipulated in article 13 of the Contract of Work.

?Since the first payment in 1997, PTNNT has now paid over Rp3 trillion in taxes and royalties to the government,? said Malik Salim, PTNNT?s External Relations Manager.

For the second quarter of 2005, the major payments included Corporate Income Tax Rp134.9 billion, other income taxes Rp76.2 billion, production royalties Rp46.4 billion, Personal Income Tax Rp25 billion and Value Added Tax Rp5.2 billion.

For royalties in second quarter of 2005 in particular, PTNNT has paid Rp46.5 billion, consisting of $3,527,123.96 (Rp 31.7 billion) copper, $1,595,578.22 (Rp14.4 billion) gold and $41,728.03 (Rp0.4 billion) silver.

In addition to the above obligations, PTNNT also spends Rp20 billion every year on community development programs and social assistance to the community. ?PTNNT supports local business development by purchasing goods and services from the local businesses in order to generate economic growth in the community,? said Malik Salim.

PTNNT signed a Contract of Work with the Government of Indonesia in 1986 and started production at Batu Hijau Mine in 2000. Based on the existing reserves, PTNNT will continue production until 2034. In the meantime, PTNNT is also conducting exploration in eastern part of Sumbawa. (end of release)
