S. Kalimantan iron ore smelter to start ops H2 2012

IDX-listed state steel mill PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk (KS) reported on Tuesday that construction of its iron ore smelter in South Kalimantan will be completed in the second half of 2012.

The company reported that construction of rotary kiln with capacity of 315,000 tpa of direct reduced iron (DRI) is now 96 percent completed and construction of 2x14 MW power plant is 64 percent completed.

Iron ore supply for the smelter will be sourced from local mines.

KS has 66 percent stake in PT Meratus Jaya Iron & Steel that operates the project with IDX-listed state miner PT Aneka Tambang Tbk owning the balance.(alex)
