Two workers were killed in a collision involving coal hauling trucks at a mining road operated by PT Manor Bulatn Lestari in Kutai Barat regency, East Kalimantan, police said as quoted by local media
The incident occurred on March 28 at Kilometer 35 in Damai district, when a dump truck crashed into the rear of another vehicle on the hauling road.
The victims, identified as F and R, were dump truck operators employed by a contractor working for the company. Both died at the scene.
Police said preliminary findings suggest reduced visibility due to heavy dust may have contributed to the accident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
Local police officials said the case is being handled as a workplace accident, with further coordination possible depending on the findings.

Witnesses cited poor road conditions and thick dust on the hauling route as ongoing safety concerns, particularly during dry weather.
The crash caused severe damage to both vehicles, with the front of one truck heavily crushed and the rear of the other damaged.
Authorities are also examining reports that unauthorized passengers may have been present in the vehicle, which would constitute a violation of safety procedures.
Manor Bulatn Lestari operates a coal mining concession covering about 5,000 hectares in West Kutai under an operating permit valid until 2029. The company began production and shipments in 2022 and operates its own infrastructure, including hauling roads and a jetty.
The company had previously faced scrutiny over its hauling operations, including a temporary road closure by local lawmakers in 2025.
The company has not issued an official statement on the incident.
