Villagers of Muara Jawa sub district, Kutai Kertanegara district, in East Kalimantan, blockaded on Wednesday the operational road of oil and gas firm PT Vico Indonesia, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

The paper said that the road blockade was made because Vico had so far failed to realize a promised compensation. The villagers had demanded the compensation because they claimed that their crops had been damaged by the company's waste materials.

The villagers said that they would continue the blockade until Vico realized the compensation demand.

The road blockade affected two locations including the route connecting M30, M07, M09 to the Galendrong area, and to the Pemaguan 8 area.

The road blockade had disrupted the operation of Vico transportation vehicles, the paper said.(*)
