Central Omega to invest $300m on nickle smelter

PT Central Omega Resources Tbk said that it would invest US$300 million to build a smelting plant with capacity of 200,000 tons to process nickel ores, Bisnis Indonesia reported.
Operational director of Central Omega Ciho Bangun said that the smelting plant would be build in two stages which would be expected to be completed in 2015.
?The supply of nickle ores will come from our mines in Southeast Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi,? Ciho said after the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the state-electricity company PLN which would supply 220 MW electricity to the planned smelter.
Central Omega produces between 3 million tons and 4 million tons of nickle ores per year.
The company earlier said that it was assessing two options of technologies on whether to set up an electric furnace or coking coal-fired furnace. (*)
