Coal India eyeing Sinar Mas coal mines

The world?s largest coal producer, Coal India, is in talks with Indonesia?s Sinar Mas Group for acquiring coal mines in the island nation , The Economic Times of India reported.

Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas Group has interests in coal mining.

?Talks are narrowing down with Indonesia?s Sinar Mas and also with US-based Massey Energy for acquiring coal assets in their respective countries,? said Partha S Bhattacharyya, chairman and managing director of Coal India on Wednesday.

He, however, declined to provide further details. The Indian coal miner is also in advanced talks to buy 10% stake in the US-based Peabody Energy?s asset in Australia. (*)
