Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa admitted that the government had asked PT Freeport Indonesia to list its shares at the Indonesian Stock Exchange.

"We ask Freeport to conduct an initial public offering (IPO). The negotiation is still ongoing but Freeport has expressed its readiness for it," Hatta said.

Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan hailed the plan saying that it would boost public participation on the share ownership in Freeport.

"This is good, it will provide a means for ownership to the community," he told Petromindo at the State Palace.
