PETRONAS, through its subsidiary PETRONAS LNG Ltd. (PLL), has completed its first delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to PetroVietnam Gas (PV Gas), marking a new chapter in energy cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam.
The cargo, delivered from PETRONAS’ LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, to the Thi Vai LNG Terminal in Ba Ria–Vung Tau Province, was transported by the LNG vessel Seri Ayu, chartered from PETRONAS’ shipping arm, MISC Berhad.
This milestone follows the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between PETRONAS and PV Gas' parent company, PetroVietnam (PVN), in November 2023. The agreement lays the groundwork for long-term collaboration focused on LNG supply, among other energy initiatives.

“As the global LNG market becomes increasingly dynamic, PETRONAS remains committed to supporting PVN in meeting Vietnam's electricity demand and serving its industrial customers. This inaugural LNG delivery marks an important milestone in our partnership and lays the groundwork for even greater collaboration in the future, ensuring energy security and contributing to Vietnam’s energy transition,” said PETRONAS Vice President of LNG Marketing & Trading, Shamsairi Ibrahim, in a statement on Tuesday.
PETRONAS began operations in Vietnam in 1991, becoming the first international investor in the country’s oil and gas sector. Since then, it has expanded its footprint across multiple energy segments, including upstream, petrochemicals, and renewable energy.
Looking ahead, PETRONAS and PVN plan to deepen their collaboration in the LNG sector under the framework of the MoC, in support of Vietnam’s energy transition master plan.
