Major parts of South Kalimantan has suffered a shortage of power supply since Friday due to the halt of the operation of the Asam Asam coal-fired power plant in the province, Media Indonesia reported on Monday.

Ari Agus Salim, the general manager of PT PLN?s branch in South Kalimantan, said last week that the Asam Asam power plant which is located in the province?s Tanah Laut regency unexpectedly stopped its operation on Friday following a technical problem in the transmission facility in the province?s capital Banjarmasin.

Ari said that the plant was now being repaired and he hoped the plant would soon be able to resume its normal operation.

The Asam Asam power plant which has a capacity of 130 MW underwent its regular maintenance services by the end of this year. The plant stopped operating for almost two months during the maintenance. (*)
