Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Suryamin said late last week that the growth in the country?s mining sector was relatively stagnant in the second quarter of this year.

?On average, the mining sector grew steadily or stagnant at the second quarter,? Suryamin told Petromindo.com late last week at the BPS headquarters.

BPS Director Buyung Airlangga said that the decline in production has lead the sector to become stagnant.

?Based on production data, the production declined because of the decrease of commodity prices,? he told Petromindo.com.

Indonesian Mining Expert Association has forecast that miners are going to cut production by about 20 percent this year because of falling prices.

Cumulatively, the mining sector expanded slightly by 0.7 percent from January to June, said Suryamin.
