Saturday, October 29 2011 - 01:39 AM WIB

Tin smelter owners in Bangka Belitung province, the main tin producing region in the country, will hold meeting today whether to continue to halt exporting tin or resuming tin exports. The tin producers have halted tin exports to help lift world tin market price.

?All producers and tin smelters will meet to decide on whether to continue halting tin exports or resuming tin exports. We will make a new agreement in this meeting which will be led by Bangka Belitung governor (Eko Maulana Ali),? said Johan Murod, President Director of PT Bangka Belitung Timah Sejahtera.

Rudi Irawan, the head of Indonesia Tin Industry Association (AITI) earlier said that industry players will make a new deal whether to continue to halt exporting tin when the tin price increases to US$24,000 per mton, or seeking other ways, such as setting up export quota.

The tin producers and exporters, said Murod, will also discuss the possibility of setting up Babel Tin Market or Jakarta Tin Market. He said tin producers plan to also discuss with the Trade Ministry officials to seek input over the plan. (ikranegara)
